A useful fit for

For a nugget-ice station where the one-gallon refill reservoir and visible filter-status tracking both suit the owner’s routine.

The main tradeoff

The Filter button does not prove that a filter is packed in the box. The unit remains manually filled and cleaned; its 13.43-inch body needs four inches of side/rear air space. No direct line or powered frozen holding is documented.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the exact Moonstone Blue XPIOX3SYMO show a Filter-status button for tracking a compatible filter?

Yes. The exact-model image shows Filter, and the linked manual says that control, when present, tracks filter status. A filter itself is not confirmed as included.

Does this exact model pair nugget ice with a supplied one-gallon XL side tank?

Yes. Its exact GE product page identifies a nugget maker with a one-gallon XL side tank; the tank is a water supply, not additional ice storage.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does its maker-stated cool-condition plan reach 38 lb per day?

Yes, as a GE claim at 70°F ambient air and 60°F water—not as a measured guarantee in warmer conditions.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the warm 90°F/70°F plan meet a 32 lb-per-day requirement?

No. GE’s exact product page gives 30.9 lb/day for the DOE warm condition; a 32 lb threshold is not supported.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the exact XPIOX3 package supply a direct water-line connection?

The exact page and linked manual document the manual-fill reservoir and side tank, not a direct water-line connection; unknown hookups do not satisfy an essential requirement.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the three-pound ice drawer provide powered frozen storage?

No powered frozen holding is documented; GE describes melt-water returning to the reservoir. Move a batch to a separate freezer to keep it.

Moonstone Blue is not the only visible difference

The GE Profile Opal 2.0 XPIOX3SYMO is the Moonstone Blue version of the one-gallon XL side-tank nugget maker. GE's exact page lists the same broad package as the stainless XPIOX3SCSS: a one-gallon water tank, a three-pound ice bin, a 13.43-by-17.5-by-16.5-inch body, nugget ice and built-in Wi-Fi. The useful model-specific distinction is on the exact SYMO image: its front panel shows a separate Filter control and status light, alongside Clean, Light and Power. The manual says a Filter control is available only on certain models and is used for a filter-status tracker, so this is a real control detail, not a guess from the finish name.

That does not prove a filter is packed in the carton. GE's exact specification describes the unit as compatible with its taste-and-odor and scale-inhibiting filters; it does not say that either accessory is included with every retailer's package. If tracking the filter is important, verify what the seller supplies and use the instructions for that exact unit. If you are choosing only by water tank, bin or footprint, the plain-panel XPIOX3SCSS and Black Stainless XPIOX3BCBT have the same listed capacities and dimensions and may be easier comparisons.

Use the warm-condition number, not just the headline rate

GE advertises up to 38 pounds per day at 70°F ambient air and 60°F water. The exact SYMO product page also states 30.9 pounds per day at 90°F air and 70°F water under its DOE condition. Treat both as manufacturer claims, not independently measured output, and remember that actual quantity varies with environment. If your counter regularly reaches the warmer condition, a requirement for at least 32 pounds per day is not met by the stated figure.

The one-gallon side tank can reduce how often you carry water to the machine; it does not hold ice. The three-pound pull-out drawer is a temporary collection bin, not a freezer. GE describes melt-water recirculation to the reservoir, so ice left in the drawer is not a frozen reserve for tomorrow. Empty it when it fills, and transfer a batch to a separate freezer if you want to keep it. The claimed daily rate and the one-time collection capacity answer different questions.

Make space for both the maker and the side reservoir

At 13.43 inches wide, the body already exceeds a strict 13-inch opening. GE's manual calls for four inches of air clearance on both sides and behind it, and for a level, indoor location between 55°F and 90°F. Avoid direct sun and heat sources. The side tank can be set to the left or right, but the manual says to keep its base at the same height as the maker and not raise it. Leave a route to lift it out for filling; the filled vessel can be heavy, and it adds a separate washable part to the counter.

The rear matters too. The manual illustrates two drain tubes and describes routing them to a sink or a vessel that can hold the drained water. Leave access to those connections for draining and maintenance. The manual recommends two people to move and install the unit, says to unplug it before cleaning by hand and specifies that the side tank is hand-wash-only—not dishwasher-safe. A narrow counter slot or an appliance placed flush against a wall can undermine an otherwise promising fit.

The filter control is not a maintenance shortcut

SmartHQ Wi-Fi supports remote monitoring and scheduling, while the front control row gives a local way to start and monitor the unit. On XPIOX3SYMO, the visible Filter control can show filter status; GE's manual explains that the filter light may signal that the filter is expired, awaiting initial setup or needs resetting. Because the manual calls this control model-dependent, the exact SYMO image is important evidence. The sources do not establish that the filter itself is included, nor do they make the app a substitute for filling, emptying or cleaning.

The manual separates descaling, which addresses mineral deposits, from sanitizing and rinsing. Harder water may require more frequent descaling. The bin and drip tray are removed for manual cleaning, and the tank's cap, valve and base well should be washed by hand and rinsed. Plan this routine along with the more convenient Filter status display; the indicator makes a compatible accessory easier to track, but does not make the rest of the water path self-cleaning.

Check lifecycle and choose by the actual suffix

GE's current XPIOX3SYMO sales page shows the model as out of stock, limited-clearance and no longer manufactured. Its Owner Center gives a May 2025–April 2026 manufacturing range, which is consistent with an earlier model. This assessment is not a claim of present availability. The exact product page lists a 37.65-pound net weight and 51-pound shipping weight; the manual's 37.6-pound empty weight is consistent with the rounded net figure, not the shipping figure. GE's current rating page and the manual do differ on amperage, so the exact unit's rating label should guide any circuit plan. Weight is not used to match this configuration.

This configuration suits someone who wants nugget ice, the larger side tank, app scheduling and a visible filter-status control, and who will use compatible filtration only after confirming the accessory. A demand for direct water-line supply, a warm-room rate of 32 pounds per day, a narrow 13-inch body or powered frozen holding points elsewhere. XPIOX3SCSS or XPIOX3BCBT may be simpler finish choices if the Filter control is not an essential need; XPIO13's smaller 0.75-gallon tank or a tankless Opal package may fit a different counter routine. Read the model suffix rather than relying on a listing that says only “Opal 2.0.”
