The NIM005BSW0 is a specialist countertop maker for approximately two-inch clear ice spheres. It is useful when one large ball in a spirits or cocktail glass is the desired result. It is not a high-throughput substitute for a nugget or bullet machine: the advertised 32 spheres per day arrive in small, slow batches, with storage for ten spheres.

Plan in spheres and hours

The product page advertises two spheres every 90 minutes and up to 32 in 24 hours. The exact manual gives a more useful startup sequence: approximately two hours for the first batch, then one to one-and-a-half hours per batch depending on room and water temperatures. A switch pressed as guests arrive will not promptly fill ten glasses with finished spheres.

The instructions also advise discarding the first four balls on first use or after a long unused period. The first batches can be cloudier before the machine reaches its intended condition. Include startup and cleaning in the preparation schedule rather than count every early ball as ready for a party. Door opening, water quality and temperature affect the result.

Ten stored balls is different from 32 made per day

The storage capacity is ten spheres. Newair explicitly says the machine keeps stored ice frozen while operating, which distinguishes it from a collection basket that merely insulates melting ice. That is a powered operating function, not a promise to preserve the ice after unplugging or indefinitely in every standby condition.

When the ice-full or low-water condition occurs, the manual says ice production pauses and resumes after the condition is cleared. Remove ice and replenish the water as needed to keep production moving. The daily total assumes an attended production routine; it is not the quantity simultaneously waiting behind the door.

A shape made for a particular serving style

The roughly two-inch sphere is the reason to choose this configuration. Check that the intended glass can comfortably accept it, including any garnish. Someone wanting many small pieces to pack a tall soft-drink glass should compare a nugget or bullet maker. The machine's five-pound/32-ball daily description is less useful than ball count when planning how many large drinks can be served.

The removable water tank is listed at 34 fluid ounces. Follow its MAX marking and water instructions. The manual recommends suitable purified or reverse-osmosis water for clarity, a different instruction from some other ice makers. Do not transfer another model's water advice or assume that every water filter produces the same result.

It needs a deliberate installation space

The body measures approximately 10.5 inches wide, 17.7 deep and 18.5 high and weighs about 40 pounds. This is a tall, substantial countertop appliance rather than a small portable ice pot. The exact instructions require space around the machine and at least six inches at the back and sides. Check door opening and water-tank access as well as the closed body.

A condensation drainpipe and drain box are supplied. The drain box or receiving bucket needs to sit below the outlet with an unobstructed route, and collected drain water must be emptied. That adds another ownership task beyond refilling the drinking-water tank. Plan where that drainage arrangement will sit before assuming the appliance only needs a power outlet.

Understand the cleaning and shutdown routine

Holding the power control initiates a shutdown sequence that can include a self-cleaning stage lasting up to ten minutes. Let that process finish as instructed instead of cutting power immediately. It does not replace cleaning the tank, basket and accessible surfaces. The manual calls for changing tank water every 24 hours and draining and drying it when it will remain unused.

Clean according to actual water quality and use. The manufacturer's longer deep-clean interval is not permission to ignore residue or odor between services. Accessing the basket for deeper cleaning involves its fixing screw and door arrangement. Someone wanting the lightest possible cleanup routine should weigh that handling alongside the attraction of automatically formed spheres.

The practical choice

Choose this model for a modest supply of large clear spheres, time to prepare them in advance and the documented powered frozen-retention function. Compare the ClearIce40 for smaller clear cubes or the NIM030SSNC for nugget ice in a narrower, lower body. Shape, stored ball count and the first-batch wait should decide this purchase together.
